Food is the key for man’s survival. It is always needed to create energy that the body requires to perform daily activities. However, the issues of food concern not just for shortage but also the excess ones and how to preserve them.
As an answer to this problem, the method of vacuum sealing is introduced. Vacuum sealing is the process of packaging food by removing the air inside the bag and completely seal it. Thanks to this process, our food can now be preserved for a longer period and has a better protection from the contamination. But just like any other product, there are also reminders on how to use it properly. Here are some tips to help you on your vacuum sealing.
Freeze the vacuum sealed food
Be reminded that vacuum sealer alone doesn’t protect the food from spoiling. It is always needed to freeze the food after the sealing process.
Freeze liquid substances
When vacuum sealing soups, juices, sauce and others make sure to freeze them first as the vacuum may suck the liquids from the package if it is not frozen.
Dry area for sealing
It is an important reminder to always keep a dry sealing area. The top 2-3 inches of the plastic package should be dry. Moistures can create big problems in the sealing process and may end up for the food to have small pinholes which destroy the preservation of the food.
Keep the plastic bags smooth
The texture of the bags used for vacuum sealing is not for aesthetic purposes only. These smooth surfaces allow the vacuum to remove air as smooth as possible. So keep the bags smooth and wrinkle free as these wrinkles can trap air that may sabotage the vacuum process.
Re-sealing the bag
At times, sealing can fail and as a natural response, you would probably open the bag and waste the initial process or even the bag. Instead of opening the bag, just try to re-seal it to save time and energy.
Maintain the vacuum sealer’s cleanliness
In order to give your machine a longer usage life, you would need to properly take good cleaning. Just simply use cloth dampens with warm water and soap to clean the surface of the machine.
Avoid storing foods that sat out for a long time overnight
These food may possibly already been contaminated. Instead of storing the foods instantly, try to refrigerate the food till the morning comes and vacuum seal them immediately.
Do not use other bags or make your own
Each machine has their own specifications which mean they may differ in bags. These machines have their own custom specification bags, so using a different bag may not guarantee a fine sealing process.
Avoid over-filling the bag
The bags are made to accommodate a certain amount of food in order to properly seal it. But when a bag is overfilled with food the end seals might just actually loose in no time. This is why it is important to keep a few inch clear spaces at the top of the bag in order for you to make three to five layers of seals just to make sure it is properly sealed.
Do not vacuum pack these following foods
Vegetables that secrete gas such as cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli. These vegetables secrete gas that expands the bag and may cause the vegetables to perish. Also avoid vacuum packing mushrooms, onions, garlic, and soft cheese.
