Gone are the neutral colors that dominated our homes in the past. Designers are now turning to bright and bold colors to deliver a punch of excitement. These darker shades might emerge in the form of furniture, accent walls, or entire room color. We’re also seeing a rise in indoor greenery, and the plants add a darker shade to the room.

The color of the year, according to many, is a shade of green known as Nightwatch. This evocative color reminds those who see it of being in nature, and is a good way to disengage from the stress of smartphones, tablets, and other devices and reconnect with the natural self. Our tip? Add a bit of Nightwatch to your home this year, even if it’s only a throw pillow.
Painted Ceilings
For decades, we’ve all ignored the “fifth wall” in our rooms. 2019 will be the year that comes to an end. Lay down your drop cloth, because we’re painting the ceilings in the new year! If you take advantage of this trend, you should either use the same base color as you’ve used throughout the room or an accent color that you haven’t used yet for a pop of visual interest.

Don’t feel the need to paint every ceiling in your home. The most common choices for this new trend will be rooms that homeowners want to give a more intimate vibe to. Bedrooms are a good place to start. If you have a formal dining room, you may want to try it in there as well. This trend probably won’t be for everyone, but it’s sure to create a drastically different atmosphere.
Gold Finishes
Bronze and chrome fixtures are on their way out. 2019 looks to be the year of brushed yellow gold finishes on sink taps and lighting fixtures. If you want to get in early on this trend, it may be time to visit your local hardware store and switch out your taps.

The gold trend is also likely to carry through the rest of the house. Look for golden accent pieces in the form of furniture and accessories. A gold throw pillow would go well with the Nightwatch green one we advised picking up previously in this blog. Adapting to new trends doesn’t always have to mean a complete overhaul of your home!
Eco-Friendly
Here’s a trend we love! We all know the state of the climate is cause for concern, and for that reason, it’s great to see the interior design embracing ecology. As mentioned previously, we’re seeing a significant upswing in the number of large plants used as part of interior decor. But potted plants are the only way we’re going green.
Watch for repurposed materials, like marble, being given new life as part of home decor. Look for energy saving appliances, which are now some of the best in the world. The trend here is to take as little as possible from the planet and give as much back as you can.
